When kids and caregivers are navigating a health crises in hospital, RMHC-SWO's Family Room and Cart with a Heart provide a level of comfort, normalcy, and convenience they would otherwise go without. Working alongside our friends at Children's Hospital at LHSC, RMHC staff members, volunteers, and donors create a safe haven where the coffees are as warm as the hugs.
There are few words harder to swallow than those shared during a paediatric oncology diagnosis. When the Hinseys, a loving London family, found out that their daughter, Keilana, was battling cancer, their worlds shifted. Their normal routines were turned upside down, and they began to spend long days and weeks fighting alongside their little girl within the Paediatric Medical Day Unit.

Whether it was a morning meal or a quick escape from the confinement of the hospital room, Keilana's mom, Shacara; dad Tatyana , and brother A'Karee, felt like the RMH Family Room was a breath of fresh air. Within this beautifully unique space, they found encouragement, a place to shower and of course, snacks for the kids. While no parent ever imagines needing this specialized support, the Hinseys could not be more thankful for the fun, food, and family time provided via RMHC.
Compassionate friends helping families and building connections. They are nothing short of phenomenal and we love the entirety of this foundation. From offering a shower, to sitting down and coping with you, to giving just a simple hello with a coffee - this place will always be in our hearts.
